A new cane from a new "dead" cane?
Default A new cane from a new "dead" cane?

Hello all!

At the beginning of summer, one of my dens. had a new cane shoot but it turned brown, whilst the rest of the plant remained healthy.

Now, it's late summer and the wet season has begun again and I've noticed on the "dead" cane shoot, a green bump near the base.

If fact, all of my orchids have new bumps on them - and i know for sure that they are new canes.

BUT what about this particular den. orchid with the "dead" cane? Is it really possible another new cane could grow from it?

If you have any idea or know for sure an explanation - please do tell!!! I've never seen this before!!

Cheers )

Interesting. The little cane that stalled has some nice healthy roots coming off it and that bump does look convincingly like a new growth. Hopefully there is enough 'go' in there to feed a new cane

Looks like new growth from the older, not dead cane. That's usual when the previous attempt at new growth died.
