I live in the warm sub-tropics of QLD, Aus. and I am wondering if anyone has an idea of when a dendrobium will rest during the year?
At this moment, they are all growing new canes which, i'm pretty sure, means they are in an active mode and need watering - But when do i not water them? I assume it's winter because it's the driest part of the year - but that is an assumption!
Some Dendrobium hybrids do not require rest periods. Right, it is in winter that you need to rest them. Nobile types have drastic rest periods requiring withholding of water until you see new growths....but some just require lessening of water like for example instead of watering weekly you water it only every other week like the kingianum. Just do a research as to what kind of Dendrobium you have and follow the culture.

Oh and another tip: do not feed or give fertilizer during rest periods.
