Even if they are tiny canes, many of his hybrids will bloom.

I have had flowers on a cane that is barely 4 inch tall. two spikes though due to small number of nodes available for the plant to make anything out of itself.

Plumania, I think he said it's a little early for blooming right now, but I think they do ship plants in bud.

I received my plants from Yamamoto today, and they exceeded my expectations by far. Plus, they included a smallish (at least the pot is small) Yellow Song 'Canary' for free! 2 of them have buds forming. I promptly put them all outside, we're still getting chilly nights, so that should help them set buds (I hope!). Can hardly wait! Their plants are all REALLY large and full, including the 2.5" one, which looks big enough to bloom this year as well.

Wow, that seemed fast and sounds like you did really well! Enjoy and will hope to see blooms come late winter or spring!

Yes, I think they shipped on Tuesday from Hawaii, since they ship 2-day Fedex, this was right. Now I want to keep them in such good shape! Not sure what to do about one that is setting buds, but has a new growth that is 6 inches long, and all of them have roots with green tips.

Not that I have done real well with them. But I think if you are sure they are buds, you can give it more room temp care until it blooms. If you start warming and watering them too soon with nubs, they can turn into keikis rather than buds. So you need to really make sure they are buds before altering their cool dry environment. It's hard when they came from elsewhere and you don't know how they were growing.

I'm confused here.

Ron- You said plants came with buds. That means buds are already "set". You don't need any more chilling to set what is already set. You can still leave them cool at night and cool during the day, which will delay flowering. Keeping them warmer will accelerate the flower development but the color and size might be optimal. If you keep it too warm, the buds can blast.

Many of their varieties flower on a very small cane, what a nice bonus.

I am now really tempted to get a few even though I have some.

Yamamoto website has great tips on how to care for their plants. Do what they say and you will be happy with your results.

NYCorchidman, I just meant if they are not clearly buds and just nubs on the cane, I have been told they can go either way, bud or keiki. And they will be keikis if you start watering and feeding again and stop chilling them. Once they are clearly buds, they are buds.
