Den. victoria reginae

I have 2 victoria reginea one came mounted one potted. Does anyone know if they would prefer one way over the other? The canes are sooo thin that they have to be staked and they just dont look natural! They both bloomed for me this year.

I find the vic-reg and her 'chid Mingle's Saphire do fine either way but display better if you can sit the plant to let the canes fall down instead of staking.

I let my (potted) victoria reginae go natural, but it grows outdoors making that easier.

My Mingles Sapphire (also potted), grows on a windowsill, so I stake the canes. I just use long skewers to stake them.

I grow mine moist year round, seems easier in a pot.

I keep her staked up as well, wouldn't mind letting her go au naturel in as she ages. One of those graceful processes you know?

Both of mine at mounted in a plastic vanda basket and I use coconut string in the basket. I water the basket almost every day.

The canes and flowers growing down are gorgeous.

Are you familiar with the type of hanging basket and the bottom is a loosely woven material that water will pour through? That material is made from coconut husk and if you pull it apart it is string.

It is a great material to hold some water but doesn't stay soppy wet. I've got a couple of small vanda types growing in baskets that helps me keep the roots damp for more than a couple of hours.

Ahhhh that is what you call it. I think here it is called coconut husk liner. Will try it, thanks...Jean
