Dendrobium keiki - quick question Male
Default Dendrobium keiki - quick question

Hi everyone
I have never before potted keikis. This summer I did pot few Dendrobium heterocarpum keikis, they were doing fine for last 3 months, but one started to loose all the leaves now - turning yellow. I know this Dendro is deciduous, but I am not sure if keiki looses leaves also? Just wanna know if it will kick the bucket or I should actually reduce watering somehow and wait for the new growth on this baby cane?

How big are the keikis?
Generally the rest is necessary for blooming - if keikis are very small, I would probably keep up the water, at least.

Some 10 inch or so, not so small, but it is only potted this summer. I will provide still water, I am just wandering if keiki can be loosing also leaves due to the winter, or if something is wrong with it, I did check the roots and they still look good, so not sure, the leaves are turning that complete yellow like the big Dendros do when going to rest.

10 inches keiki is already mature, especially if it is a DenPhal type....it will be going dormant if the plant does need rest.

Thanks Bud, it is Dendrobium heterocarpum, so it should go dormant. I was just wandering, because this is second one, the first lost already all the leaves, but the cane looks ok, it did not hit me till this second one which is even bigger, and once I checked the roost and they were ok, I was thinking it must go to winter mode. Happy to know it is not kicking the bucket but going to rest:-)

Right, hold the fertilizer until you see new growths....if you water this every week then water it every other week....the leaves will all be gone but if you give it proper winter rest= you will be rewarded with yellow fragrant flowers on the tip of the bare stems.
