Hi Bethmarie,
It's considered by some to be a synonym of D. cuthbertsonii and requires similar growing conditions. If anything it is probably a bit touchier about growing conditions because the growth are much less robust than D. cuthbertsonii, i.e., very thin and wiry.
Wow! That is stunning!!! it's amazing how much bigger the flower is compared to the plant! Boy I wish I could grow some of these cooler growers! Maybe some day.... Until then, I'll have to "settle" (ha!) for your pics!
Seriously tho, you always have the most amazingly beautiful pictures! I am currently trying to teach myself how to do photography as well as you, & a couple other members, do.. Hopefully I can make y'all proud! Lol
Never heard of this species. I would have confounded it with cuthbertsonii, what I probably did in the past. Amazing long lasting huge flowers compared to the dwarf plant.
The growths are thin and wiry rather than the pseuobulbous growth of D. cuthbertsonii and the flowers lack the dark markings on the lip that that species has.
