Picked up my first dendrobium last night. The tag says den sugar, but cant find anything on that so i dont know. It has buds on it and what would i do to keep everything going smoothly with it? Also there is a black spot on one of the canes. Does anyone know wht it is and what can be done?

Looks to be a Den-Phal - tho antelope type is a possibility.

RHS orchid registry shows seven Dendrobiums with a registered name that has "Sugar" in it The International Orchid Register / RHS Gardening

Is that black spot soft? It might be just the sheathy material that envelopes the canes blackened a bit (possibly from trapped moisture). If it's not soft, I'd just keep an eye on it to make sure it's not spreading.

The spot is hard. It looks like it was mainly the sheath but its slightly on the cane as well. I will watch it

Wow! those look like they will open up pretty!
Please post when open. I love dendrobiums!

Regarding the black area, I would just strip off the whole leaf and hope it won't show up anywhere else ever!

Best wishes
