Hey Ordphien, I grow nobiles here in LA, and they are quite easy. In the winter just put them out in full sun. Mine is in a south facing part of the garden and on the top shelf of my outdoors growth rack. As long as it doesn't rain for more than one or two days, you can leave them out. Otherwise bring them into a dry shelters place. They love this treatment, and flower for me quite spectacularly every spring.

That's great news! If I may, what potting mix do you use? I've only got cymbidiums outdoors and they are in an extremely chunky bark mix.

Ok guys! All but one bud opened.
The last one is lagging.
Fragrance is of... sweet mustard?
I have yet to get any other people to smell it.

Great plant! Everything that I've bought at Trader Joe's has been exceptionally healthy, and to top it off most if not all of the plants in the stores around SF Peninsula are properly ID'd. I've yet to see any dendrobiums to catch my eye in TJ's but I often walk out with a LC/Catt.

Beautiful flowers!
I love dendrobium nobile hybrids. They look and smell great!
They normally last about 2-3 months for me in the spring time and in the heat of summer, they may not last as long.

Regarding fertilizing, once you see the last leaf forming on top of the cane, you can stop fertilizing completely and no need to begin fertilizing until after following spring bloom fades.

It's a rare day when mine gets a catt in. Lucky you.
Locally catts are three times as much as a large trader Joe's orchid.

Oh Good... hopefully I'll get a month out of these guys. The buds were far less picky about opening than a phal.
Hmm... good to know. I feel like I might make a mess of its bloom cycle this year but I'll sure try.
The fragrance... the other ones they had had a beautiful fragrance. This one smells like sweet mustard. It's not unpleasant... actually it's nice.
It's just weird though. My brain isn't sure what to do with it lol.

It's nice because they are cheap and I get to have flowering nobile in the middle of summer.
Mine all flowered way back in late winter.
Most of these are from Yamamoto Dedndrobium, so once the flowers open, you can get a pretty good idea of what you have.
Many of their plants are not patent protected, so sometimes they are sold under some interesting names.

May I ask where do you purchase yamamoto dendrobiums? I was really looking to get some, and found their retail page directly, but after 3 days of trying to get some answers and sending emails there is no reply. Is there any other online retailer except their direct website to order from? Many thanks, they are gorgeous!

[QUOTE=TOMMYMIAMI;596116]May I ask where do you purchase yamamoto dendrobiums?
It is strange that you do not get answers from them. Have you tried calling them?
The best way to get a specific variety is of course buying directly from them, however, many on/off-line vendors carry Yamamoto dendrobiums.
Other than a few recent summer purchase I made from TJs, I have bought Yamamoto dendrobiums (with Yamamoto tags) at a different orchid shows and local florists.
So you have to look around.
but the best time to buy them is winter into spring as that is when these plants flower naturally.
I'm not sure when they sell these plants down in Florida, but probably around the same time of the year.
I hope you find some.

Many thanks, the answer came after 3 days and probably 6 of my emails. Communication is kinda sucky and also shipping for one plant pretty high. Plus, I was asking about multiple things, and did not get answer to all my questions anyway. Meanwhile, impatient me, I did search more and found one seller here in Florida, and also one seller on ebay, also in Florida, so I am all set now and having them on the way:-) purchased multiple different colors, and some for my friend also. They are really gorgeous, and it seems, after reading few pages, very easy to grow and tolerant to many different conditions, like direct sun or shade, etc:-) BTW guys, after reading this forum, and what some of you score in TJ's, I WISH to have one here, bummer:-( There was some talk they ill open one here in Miami, but I guess never happened:-((( But than again, even the scores some of members did in Lowes are way incomparable to garbage they do sell in Lowes here, sorry to say, visited closest one few times, driving nearly 20 miles to get there, and the only thing they ever had was bunch of dying Phal's, nothing else:-((((
