I got this beautiful dendrobium six months ago and I just want to know what kind it is I know it's not a den-phal from the shape of the flowers but feel free to correct me or chime in I want to know how often it flowers and if it does rest, does it flower while growing a new cane too? I water it every other day cause the media dries out real quick and the cane suffers when left too dry.
I think it is a phal-den actually, but maybe it has a bit of antelope dendrobium in it to make the petals a bit different from the normal, more rounded phal-dens.
As far as I know, spatulata dendrobiums (antelope types) and phalaenante (phal-dens) can be grown in the same conditions. Warm year round, no rest, evenly moist without a distinct dry period.
I see influence of the antelope types in the shape of the flowers, however it looks to also have a lot of influence from the phal types.
The look of the texture of the leaves/stems also reminds me of the antelope/phal cross I had a while back, slightly different colour and texture to the plain phal types.
The two types seem to often be crossed in the mass market Dens from what I've seen, and as Silje says they both have very similar growing conditions.
