Green Dendrobium spiking finally!
Default Green Dendrobium spiking finally!

This is a canaliculatum hybrid I got in bloom last summer.
It was very fragrant as well as pretty to look at.
It grew one cane since and the new cane matured a few months ago already. I saw no sign of spiking on top of the cane.
Then I saw another new cane developing, which I thought was out of normal growth cycle.
I almost gave up on seeing flowers this season, but lo and behold!
I see at least one, possibly two spike emerging!

I really need to repot this baby. look at all those roots.
I have no idea how to save all those roots.

Thanks, everyone!

Yeah, I love to look at those white roots with green growing tips, but they are totally out of control! lol

I'm afraid I will have to chop them up. oh, well.

How do you water this fella?
Now that it has a large "surface area"?
Do you soak the pot in an even bigger surface area container?

That should probably the best thing to do, but I get lazy with this plant. so I just mist the exposed roots every day.

I soak the pot about once a week. It is potted in a very moist mix of some kind of moss.
The plastic pot it is in sits in a glass container.

I should have repotted last year but I got lazy. lol
I will definitely repot this after the flowers are gone.
I want to keep this plant. it is quite nice.

I have to find a way to water it better though. This type of dendrobium (well, pretty much all others) need lots of water while growing, but since I grow this in a pot full of fine moss, I am always concerned about root rot. so I water less than the plant needs.
The cane is not as fat as the previous one but apparently it is doing well and flowering.
