Progress on Dendrobium "genting glory"
Hello everyone! I wanted to share the progression of the tiny little growth on my dying dendrobium which has turned into a nice looking small cane. I'm so excited, the roots are literally exploding everywhere and I was able to take off some bark to take a look at the new roots. The new cane even has a small sheath, it's so cute.

Don't you love to see that refreshing green little thing?
It will grow fast.
You should be able to see it flower in the fall. Usually 3-4 months is enough for a new cane to grow and mature. Then the spike(s) follow, which take another 2-3 months before flowers open.
Now, just give it plenty of water (you might want to mist those little roots morning and afternoon if you can, on top of regular watering of the whole pot) and light, and just kick back and watch it grow.

Hey there, I came here through your photo on the other thread about the dying den. The photo you posted there looks a lot like one I have going right now... I picked it up in bloom from a nursery and didn't want to disturb it because I've read that they're touchy, so I didn't look at the roots. But it started losing leaves a little over a month ago, pulled it out of the pot an lo and behold the roots were going south. I repotted it in pretty much plain bark with some stones for weight and drainage, and I have it sitting over a tray for humidity. It's not gotten any worse over this month, and the one leaf that was left seems to be hanging in there fine - in fact, it's nearly identical to that photo in the other thread. I was wondering, was there anything special you did, aside from repot and hope? I like this orchid, and I already killed my phal last month (never use miracle gro - it's half potting soil, and even if you try to rinse all the particle off, it will still just create this wet dirt plug at the bottom of the pot and rot your roots in a flash. Poor Phal.)

It's tough to learn some of these lessons :-(
But no, I didn't do anything special, and really it just took time, I would say 3 months between the top photo and the new cane. I fertilized weakly and watered only when it was dry. Gave as much light as I could (my window is south east) and left it alone. There was probably about a couple weeks left before I was going to consider tossing it, then saw that new growth at the bottom. The old canes are all wrinkled now, but they're giving energy to the new little cane. I hold out the same hope that yours will pull through as well!
