Default Dendrobium cerinum - Anyone grow this?

Haven't been here in a while!! Thought I would pop by about this new orchid I just got.

I purchased this Dend. cerinum this month at our OSA meeting and not sure how to grow it. I'm told it will probably get tall and the canes on it are pretty tall already. I just don't have much luck with Dend's.

Suggestions? It's in a small, tiny pot right now and will not stand, lol. Might have to lean it somewhere.

Teresa

Beautiful!

IOSPE says warm growing, lower light. IOSPE PHOTOS
They also say "Many authorities put this species in synomery with D sanguinolentum" - so maybe, even if it is a separate species, it takes the same culture ?

Hopefully someone is familiar with the species, and can be of more help. Good luck!

Warm growing, lower light... CHECK! Doing that right now... It's the watering I always worry about with dend's. I worry so much about over watering that I think I REALLY underwater.

I looked this up in a Dendrobium book - they have it listed under (synonymous with) sanguinolentum.

Sorry I didn't think to look this up before - I forgot I have that book

Regarding water: "Plants should be watered heavily in the growing season, but allowed to dry out for short periods during winter."

I have a couple Dens from the same section - they really do like their water. One will take slight drying in the winter, but the rest of the year I try to not let the media ever dry out.

You can put the pot inside a ceramic one, which is heavier and doesn't fall over easily. At least that's what I do for my dens.
