Default Caring for Den. Phal Keiki

My Dendrobium Phaleonopsis gave birth to a little keiki, which I potted up in Jan in coconut husk. It was about 3 inches tall with a few 1-2inch roots. Recently it has started to drop a few of the leaves and only the proximal one remains.

Is this normal? Am I doing the right thing? What should I expect - new basal growth, new roots?

I am allowing some drying between water, but the small 2 inch pot dries quickly so I have being keeping on top of it. Have had it in a bright and warmish (16-18C) place.

I can't help with this one but for future reference we discussed keikis last night at my orchid meeting and the opinion was that if possible with multigrowth plants like dends it is best to leave them on the mother plant until they get a second growth started as they will do much better once separated then and the growth rate is much quicker.

Thanks - nice tip! The mother was in bad shape, so I took this one off while it still seemed healthy.
