Carrie, it is more heat tolerant if given high light. Andy's in S. Cal. grows these at the top of the greenhouse and he says that they do well for him even in the intense summer heat. Mine have also done better since I moved them as close to the lights as possible, but I do grow them cool.

It's wonderful isn't it? I have a deep red one also, but I like this one better.

It looks a lot like cuthbertsonii. The hybrid that has Den Lawesii and cuthbertsonii is one I would love to have some day. This one is nice too. I will soon be able to get Lawesii. Is it as easy to grow, Ron?
The new orchid grower who has moved to the island has them.

I think lawesii by cuthbertsonii is Illusion, isn't it. That one is very easy and most clones are very floriferous. I think this is a bit easier than cuthbertsonii, it is for me, anyway. The trick for me was high light. I have it shoved right up next to the HO fluorescent bulbs I use (it's separated from the heat of them by a sheet of plex). All my plants of cuthbertsonii and agathodaemonis really took off when I did that.

That's it! I couldn't think of the name. I doubt I'll be able to find illusion, but I will be able to get Lawesii.
Have you had any experience growing this one? I imagine it would perhaps be the same as cuthbertsonii in it's culture.

I have several clones of Illusion and it is much easier than cuthbertsonii. Darren Norton at Mountain Orchids in Vermont has it, but I don't know if you can get it across the border.
Now that I look at your note again, I guess you were referring to lawesii. I've had it several times and it, too, is easier than cuthbertsonii, much larger though.

Thank's Ron. I just may try the Lawesii. I have South facing basement windows with light supplemented for the winter.
Our winters here are very dark, so I need lights to grow some things.

Like to hear how things go if you do get one.
