Any fertilizing after summer GREATLY reduce their flowering potential.
Other than that, you even have unheated space for the cool rest, so it's almost perfect for them!!!!

All the best!

Nice pics Monika. I am soo glad I read this thread. I have some nobile types and they dont flower - I guess they are not like Catts! LOL

Now I have a plan and looking forward to some blooms.

NYCorchidman, in the fall is it the cool rest with just enough watering to prvent shrivelling and do they drop their leaves?

Dave, the cool rest, no fert from mid to late summer and yes, just enough misting or a slight bit of water to keep the canes shrivelling. That's what Terry from ForestView says as well. They like a fair bit of light also.

Lucky you to have a knowledgeable and pleasant guy like Terry in your group! Our society really likes Charlotte and him and we order quite often from them. I got all of my nobiles from them.

Nobiles and their hybrids have very distinct cultural requirements to have abundant bloom. ( as outlined in my earlier comment).

Some people keep nobiles bone dry, but it is not necessary and it can actually harm the plants.
Some shrivelling is fine but I keep mine fat and wrinkle free as much as possible.
In the wild, they can get lots of moisture even while they are resting in the form of early morning dews and or highly humid air.

If your potting mix does not dry up fast enough, then try misting heavily instead of good soaking.

It is the lower night temperature for a certain duration, not the water being cut that induce flowering on hybrids.

With the lower temperature, plants are not growing or doing anything much, thus no need for much watering, but they do need some water to stay alive and healthy.

Now, with the lower temperature, water is not used up by plants readily and too much moisture in the mix during the cool season (as is the case with many other orchids) can lead to root rot.

So be careful with watering while plants are resting, but that doesn't mean bone dry unless you are keeping your nobiles at near fresszing cold for the entire winter.

Dropping of leaves can be different for different hybrids. Some of them drop all or most each year during or after the rest, while many maintain their leaves for two seasons or so. Whenever they fall off, as long as they fall after the canes mature, it is fine. They have done their job by then.
