I'd say remove the old pot but don't disturb the root system. This is called "drop potting". I do it with my masdevallias. You just remove the old pot and don't disturb the roots at all. Put it into a bigger pot and fill with media around it.

And this begins the search for a new pot. It'll need to be something that an hang.... These guys love their light!

This is one that I wouldn't do s/h. It really does best mounted on fern fiber or cork or a nice piece of pine bark. Be prepared for it to sulk for a couple of years after. They don't like being disturbed. It will adapt quickest on the fern fiber.

After re-mounting mine, it put out 5 blooms compared to the 120 the previous year.

I'm not growing this on a mount now and it's done very well though I don't doubt your own experience with it. That's why I was concerned about disturbing it at all. My ant is literally crawling out of its pot not, with the new bulbs sending out new roots. This is why I consider just potting the whole thing up.

Why would sh not work? While I have branched out in other growing methods including mounting your be surprised what I've managed to grow in sh! Just wondering if you have examples or its your gut telling you (and to be sure I trust your gut!).

The reason is that it doesn't like wet feet kind of like tolumnias. I like s/h for my nobile and antelope dendrobiums. I also like s/h for some of my Paphs and Phrags. This is one I wouldn't risk trying in s/h. Especially since mine is growing specimen sized now. Let me know if you try it.

I probably will try. I have a tolumnia growing in sh very successfully but only one. Other attempts didn't go well but this one plant is loving it.
