Default dendrobrium Micro Chip (aberrans x atrioviolaceum)

I believe this used to be called Aussie Chip. It didn't do much for me when I grew it in int. temps. Beginning fall I decided to put it in the coolest place of my apartment and that seemed to do the trick.

Lovely!

Den Micro Chip is Den. normanbyense x aberrans;
The International Orchid Register / RHS Gardening

Aussie's Chip is atroviolaceum x aberrans

I have an Aussie's Chip, and have seen the Micro Chip, and they are very similar looking.

How long did you have this before it bloomed? Just asking, because I don't know that Aussie's Chip, at least, needs cool temps to induce spikes, but does typically spike fall-winter ... at least in my experience - mine does get cooler temps at that time (all of my plants do!), so I can't say definitively that they don't need the cooler temps - just had never heard that about them before ...

Thank you all. I bought this plant from H&R nurseries and was told there that the name Aussie Chip could not be used anymore by them (I have forgotten the reason), but this is the same cross. Whatever the name is, it's a very rewarding plant to grow, with long lasting flowers.

Great plants!! I love aberrans and its crosses, and really want an Aussie/Micro Chip. Over here I've found Dendrobium aberrans x polysema, I might get that.

I looked up the naming issue, and found this about Micro Chip:

"This is a great miniature New Guinea type Dendrobium that seems to have universal appeal. It was previously sold under the name Den. Aussie's Chip as a cross between Den. aberrans and Den atroviolaceum 'Pygmy'. However, this latter orchid has now been identified as a new species, Den. normanbyense, necessitating a name change for these plants."

Aussie's Chip is still a valid name for atroviolaceum X aberrans
