Can someone give me an idea or a picture of how big a den spectabile needs to be to bloom? I have one that's growing fast, the grower told me when I purchased it that they can bloom at that size but usually not till they are larger. It has sent out new larger canes but as they reach maturity they don't look like they are going to bloom. Can someone tell me roughly how tall the canes need to be for it to bloom
Dendrobium spectabile needs to have at least 2 stalks of 18" or higher to bloom from seedling. However, it is only one of contributing factors. It is also require at least 8 hours of sunlight (2,000 fc to 5,000 fc) in the summer and drier/cooler (65 degrees F +/-) condition in winter to initiate flowering. Good luck.

lord, mine's never going to be big enough to bloom
Some members who regularly bloom theirs have said it's most important to withhold fertilizer in autumn, until spring I think ...
Yeah I kinda wondered about the height. I sent a pic to the greenhouse and they said its big enough. She was started from flask so its a large plant but the canes aren't all that big. She sends out 3 new ones at a time tho. Getting tons of light and a great variation between warm days and cool evenings, lotta humidity. The reason I ask is cause I have a greenhouse that wants her as a mother plant so they would like to trade with something from their greenhouse and I wasn't sure if she was blooming sized yet. I sent them pictures and they are very interested cause she's so healthy and big but her canes are nowhere near that tall. They assured me that they could make her bloom at that size which is why they want her. All theirs are on flask but they have no breeders. They want my gal to breed. Look at me, I'm pimping out my plants lol
Just look at how much a blooming spectabile goes for. They arent cheap for a reason because it takes years to reach blooming size. Mine is probably a good 2 years from it but its putting out two new canes right now that look to be finished around 12" tall. I need to cut off all the older baby canes though as its starting to get a little wild in the pot.
