Den. Goldschmidtianum leaves yellowing and shriveling? Male
Default Den. Goldschmidtianum leaves yellowing and shriveling?

MAny of the leaves on the den. goldschmidtanum I just bought are yellowing and/or falling off. Is this just a shock from repotting?

I'm not sure but having found a picture of this it looks as though it may be a deciduous one. deciduous Dens should be kept fairly dry from the end of October onward and are expected to loose their leaves over the winter. They then flower on bare canes and grow new canes with new leaves in the spring.

If it IS a deciduous Den then it's probably best to keep dry now if it's loosing leaves. I once heard Halloween to Valentines is the rough guide.

However hopefully someone else can confirm if it's deciduous or not, if not there could be a problem.

I looked it up in OrchidWiz and found Den goldschmidtianum (note slight spelling difference), so I hope it is the same. OrchidWiz indicates that this one is deciduous.
"LEAVES: Many. The deciduous leaves are 3-4 in. (8-10 cm) long, linear-lanceolate, and pointed."

I agree and OW showed lots of pictures with blooms on bare canes. It is not a real cool grower but can have a bit of a drier rest in winter and especially if grown a bit cool.

I wondered about the spelling as I only got a couple of results on a google search which probably meant someone else with the same mis-spelling. Glad Carrie found it in Orchid Wiz

I own this one and i can say the same thing definitely happened to me when I re-potted it, but it DOES NOT LIKE TO DRY OUT!!! It is not a real winter-rester the only difference should maybe another day or two extra between waterings.

What matters more is a matter of which canes it is happening to. Older, longer, and more pendulant canes losing leaves like this is fairly typical, especially in the later fall and winter. If the young upright canes are doing it then it maybe unhappy where you have it.
