My dendrobium victoria-reginae fell out of its pot (my sister knocked it over by accident) so I had to take a look at the roots... The results were not good. Many of the roots were rotted. I had to cut 1/2 to 2/3 of the roots. I then proceeded to mount the plant on a piece of wood. The wood is a branch that I cut off of a tree in my backyard. It is Y shaped, and I put the plant under the fork in the "Y" so the two canes hang down. I mounted it by tying sphag around the roots. Hopefully it will bounce back, but I'm not sure. It has two canes, one long one with three leaves and a cane branching off, another with no leaves and one bud. I'll post pics around X-mas.
are you sure you wanted it mounted when you got it originally in a pot?
your grow zone entails you have to water it more often if you have it mounted....
whereas: if you pot it once again, you just have to water it weekly; assuming you are using a bark mix....
your sister did you a favor or else the plant would have rotted its roots to death
I know, that was her unintentional christmas gift to me. I think it looks nicer mounted, also I can't find a small enough pot to put it in. The pot size would need to be like 1.5 inches. I am hoping that less roots will rot when it is mounted. Hopefully it will bounce back over growing season.
