Default Dendrobium Victoria Reginae with root problems

I purchased a Dendrobium Victoria Reginae a couple months ago, and it bloomen nicely. One thing that struck me was the number of nice whit healthy roots is had! I potted in fir bark in a clay pot when I gor it. It was in sphag when I purchased it.

Now, its has lost a couple leaves, but has a new growth on one of the canes. There is also a weird greenish bump at the top of one of the canes. But whenever I water, the old root ball is brown, with half yellow/brown roots. I put it into an oxygen core pot so I could see the roots better. All of the visible roots (5 or 6) have brown tips. What should I do, if anything at all?

The new green bump may be a spike or keiki

Roots sometimes take on a brownish color from the bark. I don't know if that's what's going on with yours. Are the brown root tips shriveled or rotted looking?

I fertilize once every one - two waterings.

Do the roots look plump and firm?

i can't see that many - only tips - and the tips in the pot look plump, but the tips at the top are squishy. It may be because when I repotted into bark, I didn't completely remove the sphag at the top of the pot. I didn't want to remove it because if I did it would break all of the roots.

If the roots in the pot look good, I think it's fine. You could snip off the squishy tips from the surface roots, but it's probably not necessary to do so.

Is your avatar photo your victoria-reginae? It's lovely!

That's not of mine, mine flowered before I got a picture. But that is what the flowers on my plant looked like.
