I should have clarified, the mid 90's are in the summer. Out here if my greenhouse wasn't heated in winter I would have nothing but plantsicles!! As it is we keep it cool to keep the heating costs affordable. Some orchids need and love the cool, drier rest, others, I must create little warmer micro climates for them with heat mats.

I figured that. Saskatchewan isn't know for it's mild winters! You do get some nice sunshine during the winter, though. We lack that.

My nobile Dendrobium did VERY well this summer and produced multiple large growths. Right now, I keep it in our unheated kitchen window, where it stays COLD (50's) and humid. Its in an east-facing sunny window and absolutely dripping with bloom nodes. The trick is, you have to quit watering in fall (maybe a mist here and there), and keep them very cool and dry, yet as sunny as possible. Dry means minimal watering, not lack of humidity, to clarify! They still need moisture in the air! The cold kitchen has proven to be the IDEAL environment for resting (I call it the 'resting room'!), however it really sucks trying to cook dinner when I can see my breath! I can't wait to see this thing bloom in spring... it looks like a living Hawaiian Lei!

(I am just trying to save on the electric bill! Old house+electric heat=EXPENSIVE!!! Glad the few resting plants absolutely love it... at least somebody does! BrrrRRRRRrrrrRRRRrrr....!)

Your Den should love that even if you don't. I hope you start a thread and post pics when it is in bloom.

Well I moved her! She has been growing like a weed for 6 months. I did not know about the rest!! She is in an easterly window but we are a mile high and sun is more intense here so I have a doubled sheer curtain, but she still gets sun for about 3-4 hours. She gets cold too! So, maybe the darn thing will bloom, I guess they normally bloom in Spring. It has a plain white flower which kinda looks like a moth orchid flower. I will dry her out as you stated, I hope its not to late to dry her out. Sorry to hear about your COLD kitchen. I don't do cold. Denver doesn't get that cold in Winter, today I have my windows open and its about 50 degrees. We get sun almost every day and all day. People think Colorado is cold, the mountains are COLD. LOL.

Mush has been said already. Being a lover of nobile hybrids, I would like to add (or repeat) a few words.

Your plant didn't get enough sun, hence the skinny, smallish and unruly plant growths.
Heat and sun are no problem for these plants and actually benefit them while they are in growth mode.
You want the grow them as big as possible (the taller the canes, the more flowers you will get).
So water heavily and give lots of strong light (1.5 is not going to work and 4-5 is ok, but longer hours is recommended).

Once the canes mature, (and you will know this because once the canes are done growing, there will be no more leaves on top end but a small knob) usually aroudn early to mid fall, give them even more sun and reduce water just little bit, I personally do not believe in no water as that is not actually necessary. Lower night temperature at least in the 50s for a month or two is a must to set buds.

Now I'm really looking forward to bloom! It sounds like I did it right. I did have bloom last year but not as heavy as I would have liked.
