Bought this today, transferred into well ventilated clay pot.Made holes myself. Media was bark mix...in good condition. It came out easily from plastic pot and not much root disturbance. So happy to get this.... for appx. $12.00
Read about it on the internet...now my turn to try getting it to bloom. Probably too small to bloom yet.

Great find! I think this species stays fairly small, so perhaps it is bloom size ?

From Lowes - seriously? My goodness, that is a great thing to find at a hardware store. Between Home Depot, Rona and Lowes in my parts, the best you ever find are sad, overinflated phaleanopsis with no labels. Impressive!

I was so surprised too. I did not go there looking for this. Actual reason for going there was to get potting soil for container plants. Then it started raining and I went inside to escape humidity. Just then, I saw this one right in front of my eyes on the orchid rack. And this was the only Dendrobium plant they had . Since I have been wishing for it for a while, I just grabbed it.
It was in a 4 inch pot. Since you think it stays small like this and might bloom.....I hope it does. I put it in pot with many holes so eventually I could hang it outside exposed to sun and rain......
Would that be OK ?

Now only Dendrobium remaining on my wishlist of 2 is pierardii !

Wow!!! Nice find!!! I am always looking at Lowes when I stop in for other mundane things, but I have never seen anything at mine but phals. Most of the ones that are bargain priced are in pretty bad shape. Last October, though, they had some kind of a promotion for breast cancer awareness and (since my birthday is in October) some friends that know I like orchids gave me very nice noIDs from Lowes that are doing very well indeed. BUT... A dendrobium. Now that is a find. Let us know what it looks like when it flowers, please!

Oh, I just love these types of dendrobiums. They don't always have the showiest flowers if you look at them one and one, but I just love that dark, warm yellow.

If I'm ever at a point where I want to focus my collection in one specific direction, this will be it.

I can't believe you found that at Lowes! I have never seen a species plant in any big box store or grocery store. Great find!
