Dendrobium jenkinsii

I've only had this orchid for a couple of months, and I only noticed the buds a couple of weeks ago. And during the night they opened up.

Of all my orchids, my little jenkinsii is my favorite. I first saw this one in the middle of nowhere in the Thai jungle, clinging on to a tree years ago.

When I finally managed to get my hands on one, I feared I'd manage to kill it off in record speed.

But so far, the little charmer has been such a easy and rewarding companion.

What sort of winter care did you give this?

Well, this is a quite small plant with only 12 p/bulbs (and four or five new ones emerging at the moment), so it's on a quite small mount as well. An piece of an acacia branch would be my guess.

I haven't yet given it any winter treatment, because I just recently got it. I probably should have held back on the watering when I received it, but I didn't. It's watered under a shower head once per week and then given a 10:30:30 fertilizer, and it's misted on a daily basis. It's staying in a fairly bright and humid spot (+/- 60-90% humidity and temps from 18-28 degrees Celsius).

The plan for the winter is to put it together with some newly acquired nobiles for a dry and cool winter rest. I want to try to create a small spot with fair humidity, but with cooler temperatures than the area I use for my other orchids.

For me the winter months will be from May to July/August next year. I hope the little cutie will be happily growing until then.

I'm a bit puzzled that it chose to flower from that p/bulb. I would have thought one of the younger ones (but mature) would have been more likely, as oncs. Do you guys know if they only flower only once from each bulb or if they can flower more times from the same bulb?

They can flower from the same pseudobulb for several years. Even the leafless ones can flower. When I first saw your picture I was amazed that your plant was flowering in August until I read further down where your season are reversed from ours in North America. My plants usually flower in late winter to early spring.
This is a picture of mine that has been growing on a piece of cork for at least ten years.

Beverly, I had so many of those little things this year that I had to catch them and move them to the woods. The windows and sills started to take a beating from all of the waste. A few are cute but a lot are a mess.
