Default Aaaaaaah! (in a happy way)

My dendrobium jenkinsii is having two buds and it's growing four new pseudobulbs! Roots are crawling all over the small mount it came on.

And I just got it. I love this little charmer.

Sorry...just had to tell someone and I know that you would be the most understanding crowd.

Yey!

When I bought myself this plant I was afraid I was going to kill it within the first month. But surprise, surprise...it actually looks happy.

Sounds like a happy plant! It is a great feeling when you are able to grow something which you thought would be a challenge.

Excitedly waiting to see the flowers.

woo hoo!

Yes, we definitely 'get it'

I just got one of these a couple months ago - and like you, having been feeling like I'm going to kill it I've been quite happy to see new growths now

How do you grow yours?

Mine came on a small piece of stem, probably some kind of acacia from the look of the bark, it's pretty rough and textured, giving the roots a bit of grip and hold a bit of moisture.

It's misted a bit on a daily basis. Just so that I see the roots getting green and moist, and then it's fertilized weekly with a orchid fertilizer (30:10:10). It's in fairly high humidity (60-90%).

Mine is still a very small plant. It got 12 pseudobulbs/leaves, excluding the new growths. I know they can grow to huge plants if kept well.

I've had a soft spot for this orchid for many years, ever since I saw it in the middle of nowhere in the Thai jungle. I just never got the chance to purchase on or to get my hands on one until recently.

How do you grow yours?

Cool. Mine came in a small clay pot. Bottom of the pot is empty, and there's a mound of sphagnum at the top that it's growing on. A couple of pbulbs in the center (not the oldest, not the newest) died and I don't know why, so I was a bit worried, but doesn't look like any other growth is declining. But I was very happy to see some new growth starting!
