Dendrobium Royal Wings in flight
(these blooms remind me of a flock of birds in flight)
Latouria section. Eight 3" blooms on this spike. Tallest cane is about 15", foliage adds about 4" to the height, but compact rhizome, so there's quite a few growths in a 4" pot with still room to spare. Blooms last about three months (or have in the past), and this can also bloom on previously bloomed canes. No winter rest for this - evenly moist year round.
A good windowsill grower. Mine is in a west facing window. Only one spike this year, but it didn't bloom at all last year. Previous year it had three spikes. The oleanders outside were getting very tall, and blocking a fair amount of sun, which I appreciate in the summer, but apparently this plant did NOT appreciate. The shorter plants still bloomed tho. Oleanders were cut down a fair amount some months ago, and I at least got the one spike this year - hopefully more next year.
The only complaint I have with this one, is having to stake new growth pretty early on so that they grow reasonably straight (only an issue for me due to the height of the canes). You can see I have some curved / crooked ones when I initially tried just turning the plant to try to get them growing straight. lol But that's a minor complaint - I love this plant!
Thanks for looking

Thanks Bud Mine's from H&R, got it at a show a few years ago. I believe they created and registered this hybrid. I think it looks cool even out of bloom, with the tall elegant canes.
Thanks Kim
Thanks nenella

Gorgeous blooms, I love those types of Dens! You don't have another sunny window you could put it in?

Thanks Camille
I think it will be ok in that window now that the oleanders aren't so tall - most of the window receives sun now, as does the foliage on this plant. I've grown it in this window since I've had it, except for a brief outside stint the first summer. It bloomed well there after the first year. My other west facing window isn't 'tall' enough for the plant. I do now have an extremely bright east facing window (it too was very shaded by over-grown shrubs for a couple of years) but I think that one is too much sun for this plant, at least this time of year thru summer, gets direct, un-blocked sun ALL morning, and gets extremely hot during heat spells. That's also my kitty's window (window perch) - tho I can get a few plants on the sill there still... But we (my cat and I) have an agreement - he gets that window, but stays out of/off others

Funny how cats have their favorite window and then stick to it! My mother's cats are the same. How is Jack with the orchids? Does he leave them alone?
