Default Dendrobium fimbriatum var. oculatum

Tall cane-like Dendrobium of striking orange flowers, this variety has a dark mark in the throat that makes it more impressive. Also impressive is the strong, wonderful perfume of cloves the flowers exhale.
I have always heard that it only produces flowers on mature pseudo bulbs of the previous year, but it is not true. My plant has eight canes and produced blossoms on seven, including on those canes that already had produced flowers before. It receives plenty of light, water and fertilizer on a year-round basis.

Very beautiful! This one rivals any other, I think. Just a bit too big for me.

My plants also will bloom on older canes.....This is one of my favorite dendrobium species. The variety oculatum seems to be more common that the typical variety which is rarely seen.

I have a keiki of this from my son's mature plant. It seems to be doing well, though I'm sure I'm many years away from it blooming. It really puts on a show when it does bloom and the fragrance is divine.
