Last summer, OB member GlenGary sent me some divisions and keikis (thank you so much, Glen!), including two Den. nobile keikis, both two canes of 4-5 inches. I haven't grown this type before, and wasn't sure if these were big enough to bloom yet. Was waiting for leaf drop to indicate if/when to start a winter rest. The first 2-3 months I had these, there was a leaf dropped here and there, but nothing I considered significant. So, I continued on with watering and fertilizing thru fall, tho did reduce water some just due to shorter days, cooler weather.
Some time around very late fall/very early winter, I noticed some nodes starting to swell, and thought to myself "crap, crap, crap" lol. So only then did I greatly reduce water, allowing plant to be rather dry, and eliminate fertilizer. Was checking nubs to try to tell what they might be, thinking they must surely be keikis, since they started before I initiate winter rest (and I also felt plant wasn't getting enough light over winter for blooming) About a month ago, new growth started to appear, and I began to increase water and begin to fertilize, and convinced myself the nubs definitely were keikis.
Well, on Saturday, while watering, I looked at the nubs I saw buds forming! Very happily surprised!
