New orchids from the NYBG Orchid Show!
Default New orchids from the NYBG Orchid Show!

I visited the NY Botanical Garden for their annual Orchid Show last saturday. awesome as usual.
but the first place I stopped by was thier store, not the actual show, which I visited after my shopping.

Now that I am moving into a new apartment with south facing window, I was hoping to see some nice cattleyas at the store. There were quite a few, but none I was interested in.

Then there were lots of oncidium intergenerics, miltoniopsis, paphiopedilums, dendrobiums (mostly nobile hybrids and the other common types) and others.
I wanted to buy so many of them, but ended up with three dendrobiums and two oncidium hybrids.

They all look so beautiful. Two of them are totally new to me. The white den named Airy Crystal and the small oncidium hybrid called Sunny NN.

Good thing about getting orchids at this store was everyone had name tag on. Not so good part was the price being too high.

From the left to right in the first picture, Den. Oriental Smile "Butterfly", Den Yellow Song "Canary" (I already have one but can't get enough of that glowing yellow bouquet), Den.Air Crystal, Odcdm "Sunny NN" and Onc. Rosy Sunset "Pacific Satin".

All have nice fragrance (especially Rosy Sunset fills up the entire room in the moring!) but the white den. but it has amazing color mix. The picture doesn't show much, but it has pink edge on the petals and the center of the lip is light yellow. Fantastic!

The first picture shows my new babies and the rest are from the garden store and the greenhouse.
almost bought that exotic one in the last picture. maybe on my next visit.
Enjoy!~

Great haul!!! The nobile dens are amazing looking, I've never seen so many colors of it in one place.

Rosy Sunset, is not an Onc, but the intergeneric called Miltonidium. I have one, and as you say, the fragrance is amazing! Mine blooms several times a year. I got it as a seedling 3 years ago, and now it has over a dozen bulbs, and bloomed on 7 spikes over the winter.

Very nice purchases!
That "exotic" one on the last picture looks like den. antennatum. Is it?
I just pre-ordered one from ecuagenera to pick up from show in couple weeks, can't wait.

I love those colorful blooms of nobile dnes.

The name tag that it came with said Onc. I looked up some online sourse and some said miltonidium and some said oncidium. quite confusing.
Several times of bloom a year sounds amazing!
Mine has 7 spikes now.
Since I had this plant a few months ago and I tossed it due to terrible looking leaves, how do leaves look on yours?
I like this plant a lot. floriferous, fragrant, beautiful color in the bright light!

The name tag of that plant read "Den. antennatum".
I thought it was supposed to be quite large, but the whole plant was very miniature, but had four spikes with dozens of flowers on each.
The only reason I didn't buy that plant was it had unhealthy looking leaves.

Sorry about that, you are actually right! Looks like there was a name change according to orchidwiz, and it is now an Oncidium. I think it was still Miltonidium back when I got it. Originally it was Miltonidium because one of its grandparents was called Miltonia before. But that got changed to Onc, and since all the other orchids in Rosy Sunset are Oncs, it too became an Onc...

Being an Onc and behaving in typical Onc fashion, some of the leaves are very spotted. But for the most part its very healthy looking.

Those name changes really confuse us all somtiems.

This new one of mine has clean leaves for the most part. There are some very subtle irregular circular area that are lighter green, which I will post pictures of later.
It's still much better looking than the first Rosy Pink I got, which had terrible yellowish green lines along the leaves. I dumped that one.

I really like this one, so I think I will keep this one and see how it does for me.
