Dendrobium bigibbum (v. compactum), mounted
The two new canes this year, and two canes from last year (including one that bloomed last year) all spiked.
Bloom color is more vivid than it appears in the photos.
Thanks for looking

Beautiful and beautifully grown, Sonya. This color is particularly hard to capture on film but you've done an excellent job.

How lovely! I have a tiny splash hybrid one with 1 spike but it is taking forever for the buds to grow big enough to open! Ill enjoy yours in the meantime.

That's a lovely species. I also like the way it is grown.

Thanks Ron - my camera is quite poor at capturing colors well, and I know purpley shades can be tricky anyway - I was happy to get the color of these fairly well; I've started trying different settings for the white balance, as well as my usual trying a few different spots for taking the photo ...
Thanks silken - hope yours hurries up! I have another small den-phal that looks like the buds have been the same size for weeks!
Thank you pheli - I quite like this one too, and am happy to have a happy mounted orchid!

That's comforting to know. I keep worrying that mine are going to blast. I still can't see it opening in the near future. And then if 1 or two open, should I wait till more open before moving it into the house to enjoy? The end buds are a lot smaller than the 1st ones that will open. I somehow have the impression that these blast easily if disturbed!

Wish I could offer advice - I brought this one inside shortly before the largest buds began to open, with no problems - the spikes were not all at the same stage - right now the first to open are whithering, and the spikes that started a bit later, still have buds to open. My Den Mini Zengyo which has much longer spikes, the first buds open, while there are still much smaller buds still developing, and get only a few blooms open at a time. The noid den-phal, who's buds seem to have remained the same size for a while, is my never-blooming one (have had it several years) - it is outside still, and I too am concerned about moving it - it got a small spike last year, but the few buds it had all blasted, even tho I hadn't moved it ... I'd really like to see blooms on it finally!

We'll keep our fingers crossed for out stubborn little Den's. Mine is the only one I have other than some Nobile type which are quite different. This little thing is Enobi Purple 'Splash' which made a big 'splash' when Hawaiian Sunshine posted his photos. so I sure want to see mine! Your compactum is lovely to see.

How beautiful your flowers have turned out...and mounted at that! You also presented it well in your photographs.

Thanks Bud - this is so far my only really happy mounted orchid ;p My mounted Neo is doing well enough, but not big enough to bloom yet, I think
