so the problem's not with the plant but with my relationship. my gf of 4 years left me because i bought a verry large specimen kingianum from orchids.com and then she started monitoring my spending and said i have a problem. lol i'm just asking if any one else has encountered this issue and how did you treat it. did you give it a winter rest or some water and fertilizer or just say to hell with it and hope for the best. i'm leaning toward the very last one
tried to upload a pic of the plant to show it's beauty but the site is being testy
I live in Ohio and the winters can be unfriendly to orchids. I don't like to have them shipped after October/ November even with heat paks--so I give my spending a winter rest.(Besides, the big growers don't seem to have new varieties in the winter.) The best part is that my husband will always get me a Christmas gift card to my favorite nursery, so I am good to go once the weather warms up enough to ship...
you are very blessed mspatt. i love my orchids but i did love my women more. but i'll get over it. have you ever ordered from orchids.com? they have a huge selection and theyve sent me some of the best specimine sized plants and seedlings i've ever seen. however i do plan to get in on oakhill gardens seedling special. 25 random seedling for $65 unless my lady comes back and then i'll be spending what ever i can on her
also i live in columbus ohio and circleville ohio for 2 years. i love the pumpkin festival. i moved to georgia and the connecticut and then nyc and now i am back to connecticut saddly to say bu the economy is rough in the south. a 100 times worse than here. i went to florida for 3 months last year and worked at some temp agencies down there

Depends if you are talking about the relationship or the orchid???
for the kingianum (how I care for mine in winter)
slightly reduced water and fert - I water lightly when media is near dry
cool temps (can take down to freezing, or a bit lower, for short periods) and moderately bright to bright light
Your question also confused the heck out of me, as you jumped from plant to human and back again . I'm sure the large kingianum will be fine...perhaps your girlfriend needs a cool, dry winter's rest?
Good growing,
Tony
