Default Busy little Den. bigibbum (v. compactum)

This little plant bloomed for the first time last winter. At the time I brought it inside last autumn, it had one spike starting to develop buds, and two very small spikes it had just recently started. The two smaller spikes ended up fizzling out.

Right now it has four spikes. Both of the two recently matured canes have spiked, along with the cane that bloomed last year (this spike is still quite small), and one of last year's canes that did not bloom.

It is also has two new leads started fairly recently, and a tiny keiki.

Such a busy little orchid!

thanks Bob - yes, this is one of my happier orchids I guess So far, it is also the only mounted orchid I have tried to do so well. I have a few other small ones growing fairly well, but haven't bloomed. Others have croaked

thanks Bud I am excited too! Last year, it only got two blooms

Great growing! I have a small Den. with a lot of biggibum in it and I just noticed today it's newest growth has what looks like the start of a spike in the centre. I'll have to wait a bit longer to tell for sure. It's my only dendrobium of this type and I just got it last spring. In the meantime I will enjoy your blooms when you post them.

thanks

Keeping my fingers crossed for you!

I stayed away from the Den-phals for quite some time - I had gotten a tiny one very early in my orchid growing adventure (one tiny cane, but was blooming - maybe was a small keiki ?), have never got that one to bloom again! That one got a spike and buds last year, but all buds blasted. Has a spike again this year (and a tiny nub on last years cane, not sure yet if that's a spike or keiki), keeping my fingers crossed.

Shortly before I got this bigibbum, I got a Mini Zengyo, which bloomed later the same year, and again last year, and has two spikes on it now. So, I'm becoming quite fond of these types now - they are much easier than my first had led me to believe

My Vappodes phalaenopsis (a sister to your plant) is in bloom. I didnt realize it til I googled it. They are both den. phals the bigibbum and the vappodes...I have to take pictures outside my apartment because my vappodes is tall and needs space to be presented well...iPhone cam are not indoors friendly...I hope tomorrow is a sunny day
