thanks Tristan!
I was a bit intimidated by this plant at first, but was able to get one fairly cheap, so thought I would have a go - turns out there was no need for intimidation - just need to make sure the media doesn't dry out - and since it likes cool temps, it happily grows out side year round

I may have to give one a try. I think it'd be fine in San Francisco.

should be very happy in SF - I'm in San Jose, near the Santa Cruz Mtns - warmer and drier here than SF in summer, so I would think it should do VERY well in SF!

I'm giving it another try. I just ordered one from Andys.
So I take it, no winters rest...

awesome!
correct! no rest - I do water much less frequently in winter (being outside, and definitely cool and damp in winter), but don't allow it to dry out - mine has taken temps down to mid 30s overnight - I don't THINK (but could be wrong) it requires any particular low temps in winter to bloom, tho, I'd probably try to grow it as cool as you can in winter

moderate light - can take brighter in winter - mine's in the same spot year round, gets much less light in winter than this time of year, but brighter in winter could be better maybe

post pix of yours when you get it, please?
