I have one of each of these and I'd like to place the gonzalesii cane in a basket because the small 3" inch pot does not allow the cane to hang well. The single cane with a tiny cane coming up next to it is about 14 inches tall and I bought it as a seedling 7 months ago. It came in bark and I'm not sure if that is the best medium to repot it into in a basket
I also have the lowesii I am not ready to repot but would like to know in advance.
For those who do not use the s/h culture, and are still using bark and other mixtures, I stumbled upon a website that has specialized blends for orchids and they have great customer service. You can order all sizes of bags as well. The link is: Orchid Supplies - rePotme.com
I am sure there are several other websites out there with specialized orchid mixtures as well if you do a search on Google. Sorry I am not much help other then this recommendation!

I extracted this from the Baker's book on dendrobium. D gonzalesii is best mounted on tree fern or a cork slab. If grown in a pot or basket, an open fast-draining medium is recommended. D lowii is best in any open well drained media that remains moist, but not soggy. Hope this was helpful.
