Den. sulcatum
This is a seedling that I purchased from Exotic Orchids of Maui in September 2006. The seedling is a selfing of Den. sulcatum 'Golden Ball'. The plant is in a 4-inch plastic pot with orchid bark as the media. The tallest stalk is 15 inches tall. The yellow flowers closes slightly at night and reopens during the day.

Good growing!
I also saw some seedlings which were able to bloom when they were not tall.
It is interesting that the blooms close at night.

It might be my imagination but the flowers seem less open at night. I took these photos in the afternoon. |

I have one too. I really neglected it and bloomed anyway from a short cane. It does not seem to require a lot of light at all. Just on a windowsill. The flowers do not last more than a week though.

You were correct. The flowers started folding after 5 days. Fortunately the plant has another set of buds that have not yet opened.
