Dendrobium growth on canes.

OK, so my Dendrobium Jenny Red had some issues last year after I brought it in. The leaves were quickly turning yellow and falling off. There are still 5 canes with leaves out of 12 so I'm glad it's not dead. I did change the potting medium as well. It was in flower when I brought it in.

Now, one of the canes that produced what appeared to be a keiki (roots were developing) off of the flower spike has a new green nub growing.

I actually have another Dendrobium that is doing the same thing now. I only noticed it because I removed a yellowed leaf from it and when I did I saw the green nub.

What is this? Is it a keiki or is it trying to flower again?

My Dendrobium kingianum has tons of keiki's, but they did not look like this when they started.

It's difficult to say without a picture. I have a couple of dens that seem to keiki a lot, but I'm not sure what is different about this one that makes it look different.

Here is a pic of the Jenny Red. It's kinda hard to see, but it's on the cane in the foreground that is kind of off to the left a bit. The branching is what was the original flower spike that started rooting. Out of the base of it is the nub.

It looks to me like this is another cane sprouting from the keiki. This is a good thing.

Thanks for this post! I have a dendrobium nobile that's doing the same thing -- there's a little green nub pokin' out of one of the canes. Maybe I see what to expect!

My Nobile's seem to produce a lot of keiki's. Not sure what that indicates. As well, I had two different plants with tiny keikis and the keikis produced 2 flowers each! The flowers were gorgeous and large! As well, one of those plants produced a few blooms in a normal way from the mature cane.

WOW - so I'm going to be one happy baby Dendrobium daddy then?! LOL... Other than my kingianum and one phal, I've never had keiki's! The kingianum sprouts babies like crazy but it's a bit different how they form it seems.

I agree
