thanks - I'm sure the climate here doesn't hurt - just need to really stay on top of watering in the summer, but apparently it likes our autumns and winters quite well

We are experiencing right now what it is like to go through a dry season. It has been exactly one month since we have had rain where I live and with the wind and high temperatures, watering is a real chore for things growing outside.

pretty much can't expect any rain here May - Oct, so I water a LOT in summer!

That sure is a long time to go without rain but I know how it is because I lived in LA for a few years.

We had low 80's and humidity was a perfect 45. Not a bad day but still not rain. I have learned the hard way not to take any growing advice from California growers because it simply does not work here. For example, at 18% humidity you could mist your plants two or three times per day and they would still dry off before dusk. If I were to do that I would present myself with a big fungus problem.

hehe - yeah, rot and fungus are not usually a problem - except for plants outside in winter getting rained on at night (other than cyms, which are impervious to just about everything! lol)
