I forgot to mention, it's worth the bother. Mine will bloom 3 to 4 times a year and last a long time, in a more Northern climate then yours.

I have mine bare root in a container so I water it for 20 mins a day. Fertilize it for 30 min every week. It was growing new roots well but just has stopped and looks poorly. I have pix on skeenski gallery. Has black spots on leaves and a split on one and a weird long indent on one leaf with a matching bulge on the inside of the indent. weird. She gets tons on light now but in summer I will have to move her back as the glass sliding door will burn her leaves. I lost 4 last year and no new growth this year yet. The top leaves have not grown a bit. I have had her 4 months. At least its still alive the flowers on it are a deep purple they are gorgeous if I can figure out what it likes.

My dene orchids are doing well flowers lasted forever. At least leaves haven't died. I might have to move them back from window this summer. They are in Eco houses and they seem to like it in there. Keeps humidity in that evaporates from the moss inside after it is watered.
I will try outside this spring when the weather hits 70 outside for the day and see what happens. I can put them on my table and they will get light but not direct sun. I'll try anything for the vanda to help it start growing and stop being stagnant.

Thanks Linda

If you put some sphagnum and charcoal in with your vanda, you won't need to water nearly as often. It holds a little humidity. I've had mine for about 9 years now, and never a problem. I would like to try vase culture with a small one. Mine is far too big for it to be practical.

Default neiighbors orchids any care tips?

My neighbor just bought 2 new orchids from Walmart but there is not a tag to tell us what kind it is. It just says put 3 ice cubes on it once a week. Sounds weird to me we have no clue as to what kind it is. If take some pix of them for her will you help me try and figure out what kind it is and how she should take care of it? If you have any idea. I will try and get over there by Tues. She is having a tough life right now their daughter giving them fits . Maybe playing with new plants will help give her something else to think about. Life just stinks sometimes and they are great people. Thanks Linda
