Tom and Ray, my speciosums get warm/hot summers with lots of water, humidity and light (full morning sun until noon, then only a slight amount of shading to prevent burning for the rest of the day), followed by cool/cold winters with much less water. Throughout the year they are given minimal amounts of fertilizer, perhaps 1/8 teaspoon per gallon once a week (if I can remember). Summer highs are around 95 F (with accompanying 85 - 95% humidity), and winter lows are between, say, 45 and 55 F.
Tom, both Andy's Orchids and Santa Barbara Orchid Estate carry this species. I got this plant from SBOE many years ago as a baby.
