I guess I figured "everyone" had one because it's a yamamoto hybrid...silly me!

Silken, I honestly did nearly nothing to mine to get it to bloom. Because I live very far south, I left it outside until I actually saw the flower spikes forming...we had a cold spell for about 3 weeks where the temps dropped to the 40's and I left them a little dryer than normal, but not much. I went to check it one day and the spikes were starting to form, so I brought it inside. That's about it! I wouldn't hold watering at all....just make the waterings less frequent and not as thorough. They need about a month of night temps around 45 to induce flowering according to yamamoto.

Thanks for all of the kind comments! I continue to enjoy it and it's the table centerpiece right now.

David

Well, I got a gift certificate to Hausermann's for Christmas. I was looking at that specific orchid, but wasn't quite sure. After seeing yours I am sure--I will have one as soon as the winter temps moderate a bit...

THANKS

Sorry to make it unanimous but I also don't have one. I would love to have one that looks as great as yours and will be looking for one next trip out. Now we're all wondering if you have a rare orchid rather than a common one! Congrats, it's stunning and cheerful.

Thanks so much, guys! This is definitely a favorite--and I guess not too common! Still in very full bloom, I think they last about 2 months!

Gabor, this one is semi-deciduous, so that's why it looks rather bare of foliage. Also the multitude of blooms tend to cover up the leaves.

Thank you for clearing that up. I thought perhaps the leaves were cut for the picture, like they do in the judging sometimes!
