Rootless Dendrobium canes? Male
Default Rootless Dendrobium canes?

When I divided one of my Dendrobium spec. I accidently cut off 2 canes and it is completely rootless. Just wondering is there any possible chance on saving them?

I covered the wounded with some cinnamon. And placed one cane in some speciosum mix and one with moss around the base.

Anyone had any success with this?
Kind regards
Stephen

If there is any chance it will be if the canes have 'eyes' for starting a new growth. If there are no eyes it will not be able to do anything.

What type of Den is it? I have a Den phal cane which I twisted off a very sick plant (totally rotten at base) and just propped up in a sunny spot it has sprouted a keiki from the top, which is now in bloom... just waiting for the roots to appear and then I'll be REALLY impressed! Just goes to show how strong the survival instinct with these plants are!

I used to toss broken canes from phal type dendrobiums, but not any more. Last year one of my favorite dends toppled over and lost a long cane. I didn't have the heart to toss it and just left it on the back porch table. After a few months of neglect it developed a keiki near the tip of the cane.

Mee too. Just keep the cane under your racks or inside an old pot . They will get water and humidity automatically by that way and sprout up a keikis.
As well tiny roots.
