Default OZ orchid sites for Dendrobium speciosum

Hello, fellow Dendrobium speciosum enthusiasts in Australia. Since this species is native to your country, I'm hoping that some of you might be able to point me in the direction of any online websites, forums or publications (if any) that specifically address this species (or group of species). Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

Steve

Steve, you could try ANOS (Australian Native Orchid Society). I don't have their email address but I am sure Mr Google would help out there.

Haven't heard of any organization that deals specifically with Den. speciosum.

OOL (Orchidsonline) is an Oz based orchid forum similar to OB that is user friendly (they tolerate me) and there are a number of members who are into species.

Hi Steve,
As wth most species, info on speciosum is scattered throughout the literature and the Net and few people have bothered to condense what speciosum growers take for granted into one neat spot. Bill Dobson's site brings a lot of this info together and is worth looking at. There are a few books that discuss this species as part of a wider topic but the only one I know of that specifically deals with speciosum is a 48 page booklet by Peter Adams that is produced by ANOS Melbourne Suburbs Group. For $25from MSG or $30 from Orchidaceous Books it's not exactly cheap for what it is. The Orchadian (ANOS's journal) occassionally publishes some excellent articles on speciosum but they don't publish them frequently enough to subscribe to that journal just to get info on that particular species.

Thanks, guys! I'll definitely check out Dodson's site. I'm growing and blooming my plant of this species fine (although it seems to be starting to bully aside many of my other orchids now that it's getting larger and requiring more growing space). But I think that might have to do more with its rather robust nature than it has to do with my growing skills. No one else who I've met in my local area grows it, so I figured that it couldn't hurt to reach out to its homeland to see what I could find out. Thank you again for your feedback.

Steve,
There was a notice in one of the recent Orchadians saying that ANOS was planning to put together a register of speciosum cultivars that will include info such as descriptions, awards, collection location/parentage etc. The project is in the information gathering stage at the moment and they haven't given any indication of how far in the future the launch date will be but apparently it will be available as a searchable database on the ANOS website when it's completed. You may want to keep an ear out for any developments on this project.

I've been doing some OB browsing. Just for information, the nursery mentioned above moved the page to Dendrobium Speciosum - The Sydney Rock Orchid – Australian Orchid Nursery

Steve:
Zip Gerry Walsh a note; rocklilyman@gmail.com
He's got a great site devoted to the different varieties of speciosum and has been a great source of information to me regarding questions about my collection.
