well shoot I knew I should have repotted right away
I got a dendrobium nestor in june and it was doing ok I guess but not really great.Well It was in bark and I dont do well with bark and had just used up my hyrotron on all my catts so I took it out of the pot and put it in a bigger pot and used the little bit I had left to fill in around it.It really took off and the new leaves got quit a bit larger than the ones before this point and new roots started coming aout too.
well I bought hydrotron and got to work on almost everything else in sight but not this one it was just doing too well and I thought ok in fall just dry off some and next spring repot into hydrotron.
Tody I got into a repot the few I had left mood and since new roots are coming out everywhere got the rest finished except this one.Thought about it and then thought well its fall time to dry off anyways will wait ....lol a little later decided to at least take it out of the hydrotron and check roots and put it back if all looked good....well when I took it out had lots of new roots but the old roots in the bark were not so good looking shriveled and like they were dead or dying so I started the process of removing old bark and cleaning her up....not that difficult actually and most in the bark were on the way out but still plenty of great new roots .
My question is actually just what to expect having repotted this late in the season on a den nestor?
Should not be a problem better to get rid of the old roots then to leave them to soak up water they can't use and end up with a big rot trouble . About Halloween is the time to stop the Fert. and reduce watering I think it was better now then when it is budding in the spring ..

Mine are nice and green and in fact I have been wondering if I should stop fetr or not since it still has some new leaves enlarging.I did slow down a bit but only in the last week.
I think it is warmer there then here ,mine is on the porch , got a cool down awhile back , I would wait till you see yellowing leaves don't want to starve the new ones .. I don't give a total dry out just less water when leaves start to yellow ..
cool I have been lightening up on fert but that is down to once or twice a week instead of daily as I usualy do. It actually has put on a good amount of growth and is slowing down and may actually be due to the cool spell we are having but roots needed cleaned up major and I did move it into 100% hydrotron getting rid of the old bark it came in.I dont want to lose it to something I can prevent and the new roots did look much larger than the old ones were and vigorous...just not quite as many as I would like. But LOl thats one thing we always want to see more of.
They are spoiled lolol mine are lucky to get Fert. once a week . From now on I am re potting any I get .
thios one has realy done well to have had as many roots dried out ...they were not rotten just dead and I was carefull to not water except by using my spray bottle. At least the original root mass was sitting in hydrotron and that let them breathe enough not to rot and I may have actually underwaterd but that is good ...I usualy overwater in bark and kill em must be a sign I am learning how to water in bark .
