in the recent Orchids publication a comment from Yin-Tung Wang PhD. many orchids including the nobile type dendrobiums species and hybrids are said to require a period of dormancy and water must be withheld for triggering flowering. his research demonstrates that this is not true.

Dennis if this is a fact, what does he have to prove this comment. I have done it both ways this season and most definitely the rest period is the way to go. Now on the other side of the coin there are dends that do not need a dormacy rest period these type of dend could be the comment he is referring to.

What publication are you speaking of???? Something that can be found on the internet? Would be interesting reading material. Dends are in a class by themselves if you ask me. Very moody

I remember reading an article a while back on fertilizers that he wrote/spoke about for phals, a copy from our vendor. A very brilliant man, was not being rude in the fact of non-believer of his documentation, just wanted some sort of logistics to his findings.

in the recent publication someone asked a question and what i typed in the first post was his response. in case you are unaware as to who he is Yin-Tung Wang received his B.S. in Horticulture in 1973 from the National Chung-Hsing University in Taiwan. He received his M.S. and Ph.D. in Horticulture from Oregon State University in 1981 and 1984, respectively. Dr. Wang became a member of the graduate faculty at Texas A&M University in June 1986.

Dr. Wang's areas of research are production of horticultural and foliage plants and woody ornamentals; the effects of light level on growth, acclimatization, carbon physiology, photosynthesis and post harvest quality; fertilizer requirements; water demand and medium selection; soluble salt accumulation vs. plant growth; propagation; growth regulators and orchids.
