Hello all, this is my first and only orchid so bear with me haha still learning

I bought one of these last month, mounted, and its been doing great! I am very pleased with the fact that i can see week to week growth and its nice and green.

Now i started it about 4 inches under a regular aquarium light with once a day misting. Now it is in a 15 gallon glass tank with a glass top with once a week misting.

Its doing great and a joy to watch grow but i have to move it again. What lighting and watering needs does it have? haha i have no idea honestly, I just tried what I listed earlier and its worked.

So, my base question (in the long winded post) whats are its watering and lighting needs?

Hi Hunter!
Always nice to meet a new victim - er, enthusiast!
Good to here your orchid is doing so well! I am not familiar with this species but found on IOSPE IOSPE PHOTOS
It is hot growing, and likes full sun - so a lot of light! - and is a spring - thru fall bloomer.

Hopefully some other members can give you more specific care advice.

This is a great place for learning to grow orchids! I'm sure soon you will have many more

Hi, Hunter and welcome to the OB! I live in southern Florida and grow mine outdoors. It's about 97 degrees outside here during the day. I water it well two to three times a week, it's in a wooden basket lined with moss and planted in LECA.

Mine is doing ok but I have a friend who has hers in moss only and she says it's doing great. I think the extra moisture she gets from the moss is the differece but I've never had luck with straight moss so I am hesitant to change. Mine may grow slower than hers but I don't want to risk losing it to root rot. Hope this helps a little!

Hi Hunter and welcome to Orchid Board.

I don't grow this species, but I would have thought that a mounted Den would need more water than just misting once a week.

I dunk my mounted orchid, mount and all, in water for a few minutes every day, generally mounts dry very quickly so it may be worth experimenting with more water, watch how quick the mount is drying and try and water just before it is fully dry.

Its the tank is all glass with a glass top so it pretty much retains its moisture, though lately Ive been leaving the top off for a day or too for air exchange

Ah OK, I understand now. It always is a case of judging how quickly it is drying for you.
