Dendrobium loddigesii

Hi everybody!
This is my Dendrobium loddigesii, it spent all the winter outdoor and this is the gift it gave to me.
I'm so proud and fascinated by this plant, even if I generally am not a great Dendrobium lover.

Your last 2 pictures are stunning, you can really see all the detail on the lip. You did a wonderful job growing this one! I know it doesn't get very cold down by where you are, but what are the winter temperatures like on average?

Beautiful, and great job growing it! Mine has apparently decided I don't deserve any blooms this year, despite the nice winter rest I gave it

I made the last two photos with the purpose of showing you the colours, pattern and shape that really fascinated me.
The winter average temperature here is about 8-9°C with minimum of 3-4°C. If only I had a tree or a palm in a garden I would have already made these plants grow on them... Unfortunately I don't have a garden and this is a very pity

Last year I made three choices that I thing determined this generous bloom:
I repot using perlite, bark and sphagnum in proportion 2-2-1, last summer I exposed the plant to the direct sunlight that, I can assure, is extremely heavy!
The last thing is the winter rest: no protection and very few waterings.
I don't know which of these is the crucial trigger for this bloom, maybe someone can help us

Sounds like you have the perfect climate for resting Dens outside. That's my number one problem with resting Dens, I can't keep them cool and bright enough to get lots of flowers. I get a few flowers, but not many. I need to move to the south of France, lol!

They have a HUGE one of these at my botanical gardens, i think it just finished flowering

Oh you're right... if only I had a garden I would now have something of very interesting
Maybe I help you if I specify the light dose I gave to this plant.
During the summer the Den stayed under the sunlight until I saw some light damages on the plant. During the whole winter my little patio doesn't get any sunlight so the Dendrobium saw a very bad exposition.
I guess it stored the energy during the summer and in winter it just slept.
You can try to enable it to get more direct sunlight during the summer and give its a colder winter.

Wow, gorgeous.

I've just bought one of these this spring (as part of the spring project). I had not realised they needed cold over the winter, but that sounds like my greenhouse will be perfect for them as I plan to keep that very cool but not freezing for some of my Masda.

Really hope I can one day get a show of flowers like that (I just had one flower open shortly after I bought it this year).
