Default Dend pierardii

A really great species and a good bloom for a pretty young plant. I did an experiment by watering it as normal all winter. I've heard and read (here on this board) that if the temps stay warm enough, you don't need to give this species (or its allies) a really dry rest and that you won't get tons of keikis if you keep watering. Well, that rumor is officially true for me. While I've got 4 or 5 keikis popping up on the older canes, there were none on the new canes. For me, this plant usually cranks out little plantlets all year long though, so its no surprise that I've got a few. Enjoy!

It looks like it's made of cotton candy. Sweet.

Very nice! Is Den pierardii the same thing as Den aphyllum? (which I have) They look very nearly identical.

Thanks! I had to look this question up, but yes, they are the same. Actually, your name is the more taxonomically correct name!

very pretty. you have got a very neat jungle out there!

Both aphyllum and pierardii are accepted names but the current accepted name by RHS is Dendrobium cucullatum

These guys love to be completely drenched (like most highly deciduous orchids) during the growing season. If its mounted, maybe it could use 2 waterings per day!

Funny, that's not what I found when I checked Orchidwiz (I have the latest version.) Den aphyllum is listed as the current accepted name at the RHS and Kew.
