I'm also a photographer. What kind if camera do you use? Do you have lighteroom? And what lense do you have forthose macro pics? Do you have a macro lens? Or is is an extension tube?

Covered it back on page 1 I think...but a Nikon D300 with a 105mm 2.8 D. No tubes, but we may bring them in to shoot the tongue which is REALLY fleshing out now...Settings were F32'ish at 1/250 and lots of directional and bounced light...It took about 200 permutations to get the light focused right.

We wanted to arrange the lighting so the major ratio fell on the bulb and less so on the rest of it...1 snooted SB600 to highlight the flower, an SB900 bouncing off a fill card for separation, then a third fill card underneath the bulb to soften the shadows from the key.

Photos were processed in Lightroom, but apart from very minor exposure adjustments, we did such a precise job on the lighting that we didn't have to do any retouching :)

In the madness to shoot it, I forgot to get a setup shot (who wants to keep reinventing the wheel).

Anyone know how long they flower for?

I did up until about a couple of years ago when we moved - we were so wrapped up in settling in that things like the orchids took a back seat and orchids don't appreciate taking a back seat to anything.

The new environment almost killed all of them before we started to pay attention.

I did however purchase a new smaller one and it's currently repotted resting comfortably in a north facing window until I see evidence of new growths.

The one mistake I continue to make is misjudging how wet the media actually is despite what the top shows you. I'm in a particularly arid environment now where forced hot air can drop the humidity down to an arid 27%. I'm using a mix of new zealand sphagnum moss and coarse fir bark with a little perlite mixed in for kicks. That gives the roots enough room for air to circulate and for the media to stay moderately damp for about 3-5 days between drenchings.

I have a couple of new oncidium cuttings growing right next to the dendrobium and both of those are in an identical mix. After about a month in the new setting, both of those are throwing new roots and new bulbs, so I'm hoping the tiny dendrobium won't be far behind.

Would love to see pics of your setup once you get her settled in, and I'll certainly do the same.
