I grow outdoors here in south Florida. Our winters are dry compared to our summers, but we still get rain when cold fronts come thru. Probably very close to the conditions of when these are in situ.
But, we have had an extremely cold, and wet, winter.
If you are growing them inside, a dry rest normally means less frequency waterings.
Stefano, I totally agree with everything you said. Little or no water during the winter months in a greenhouse or outdoors in Florida is totally different from a heated residence. I have a couple of plants on my kitchen sill and they require water two to three times per week during winter, whereas the same plants in the greenhouse only need water ever ten to twelve days. So it goes without saying, your growing environment is certainly primary to the necessary culture.
Some of my Dens get dry winter rest with night temps down to 50 degrees F., but sometimes a bit lower. They are keeping company in the same greenhouse with Masdevallias, Pleaurothllids and other cool growers. I can't resist misting them occasionally, but mostly try to ignore them. Sounds like you're not advising temps this low?
