Default Giving up on Dens. no luck and to big

Hi there OB members. I have had these Dens. since 2/9/09 and didn't realize how big they would be. I purchased them from Carmela's in Hawaii. Their price gave me the idea that they were small Dens. but that was not the case when they arrived. The box was huge. I love the flowers and colors but the plants themselves are not very pretty. They are way to large for my little house and the greenhouse. So I would like to give them away to a good home. Anyone wishing one or all of them please let me know via e-mail or here on OB. I don't want to trash them they are still very much alive. All I ask is that who ever takes them pays for shipping. I can hold them until the weather gets warmer as well.
So take a peak at the photo's of the two larger ones.

Den. Palolo Sunshine 'Ito'
Den. Burana Emerald 'Burana' Green/Burgandy center
Den. Paskel Kuning 'Hawaii' Very Large
Den. Kasem White x Royal Colors 'Carmela' Large

Thanks Sheridan

Hello Sheridan,

I am very interested in having all your dendrobiums, but I live in Florida. I love dendrobiums and have lots. Could you please find out how much shipping would be and give some kinda quote. Would have to find out if it would be within my budget to ship them here.

Thanks,
Amandalee

Amandalee lets not worry about the shipping if you want them they are yours. Do you want me to wait until the weather warms up? I can send them whenever you like. Just let me know. I can ship 2nd day by Fed Ex.

Sheridan,

Thank you so much, its so very generous of you. I don't know how cold it is there. So wait until when you think it's warm enough to send. Would hate them to make the cross-country trip and get too cold on the way and die.

There are two groups that might peak your interest. The latourias, mainly Den atroviolaceum and its hybrids. Den Aussie Chip, and Maiden Charlotte are great short plants. There are a couple in the formosae group that are good too: lowii, bellatum, and margaritaceum and the respected crosses.

If you'd like suggestions on some miniature Dendrobiums that are very showy.

Here's a short list:

1. Den. peguanum
2. Den. unicum
3. Den. victoria-reginae
4. Den. canaliculatum
5. Den. cernua

Den peguanum is the only one I know of that I would consider somewhat tricky to grow because of a dormancy period.

The Den. unicum has a dormancy period as well, but it shouldn't give you problems, in my opinion.

Thanks JohnBlagg for your comments.

King of Orchids and SOS thanks so much for the list of smaller orchids. I will take a look at these.

Amanadalee - you have to send me your address.

Sheridan -
I would definitely recommend trying the smaller Latouria types - I have a couple. I got them last winter in bud/bloom, and both are now spiking/budding. No rest, not tricky to grow at all.

Den. atroviolaceum v pygmy (still blooming in July in that pic, after I got it in bloom/bud in early March)

Den Aussie Chip (aberrans x atroviolaceum) (it too bloomed for a few months)

I also have a Den Mini Zengyo which is a rather small Phal type. This one also seems not difficult. Bloomed in fall on one cane and has another spike now on another.
